About this Database

What is go-BiO?

Go-BiO is a one-stop source of information identifying all of the bioproduct, biofuel and bioenergy related interests, activities and supports available in Saskatchewan. Launched in 2008, go-BiO hosts information on the capacity and infrastructure assets with a presence "on the ground" in Saskatchewan and acts as a referral and attraction tool to develop and support industry activity. Funding support to develop this database was provided by the Agriculture Council of Saskatchewan (ACS) through Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Canadian Adaptation and Rural Development in Saskatchewan (CARDS) program, Industry Canada and Ag-West Bio Inc.

How is the database populated and maintained?

The database was assembled by the go-BiO Saskatchewan project team. Go-BiO is a self-entry database; we are counting on users to help keep information current, as well as identify new items that should be included in the database.

Please email us to suggest potential participants we should invite to contribute to this on-line resource.

Who should participate?

Go-BiO is a valuable resource to assist individuals, companies, and governments identify opportunities for collaboration or partnership with Saskatchewan-based organizations. We profile a broad range of business so that anyone who has interest or expertise in bioproducts, biofuels and bioenergy may participate. Whether you are an academic researcher working in the area, a company manufacturing a product, or a service or equipment supplier, there is a place for you in the database. Go-BiO is limited, however, to those with a presence in Saskatchewan or relevant federal or provincial government programs and services.

How can I participate?

Individuals or groups can self-identify as having interests in biofuels and bioproducts sector in Saskatchewan by using the public application page or contacting us via email to advise us of potential participants we should invite to contribute to this on-line resource.

Is there a cost to participating?

There is no cost associated with adding a record to go-BiO.  We may offer participants the ability to sponsor advertisements (in addition to their free database record) in a future build of the database.

Why is go-BiO limited to Saskatchewan?

Go-BiO is an "on-the ground" regional resource tool. The initiative was developed by Ag-West Bio and was funded by Agriculture Council of Saskatchewan Inc. (ACS) through Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Canadian Adaptation and Rural Development in Saskatchewan (CARDS) program as part of the Saskatchewan Bioproducts and Biofuels Centre. Go-BiO is also a demonstration project for other federal and provincial organizations and we hope that we will see development of a database that extends to other jurisdictions in the future. For now, our focus is Saskatchewan! Browse the database to see how much activity we already have and help us build on it!

Help

I need help searching go-BiO.

There are two main ways to search go-BiO:

1) All entries are grouped in pre-existing batch searches. Select a subcategory from the search page list, for example "Biomass", and all records that include the term "biomass" will be included in the search result.

2) For more flexibility to identify particular entries of interest - enter keywords into the search box. You can type in single or multiple identifying terms, for example, entering the words 'biomass and fermentation' (or 'biomass fermentation', with or without the word 'and') and your search results will include all records that include those terms anywhere in the database.  You can also search for phrases by using quotation marks, for example a search for "biomass fermentation", would return records that include that phrase.

I need help understanding go-BiO search reports.

When you search go-BiO, the report that appears is dependent on the number of records that your search returns. A return of fewer than 10 records provides a full report of all records, while searches with greater than 10 records will provide a summary report. Users have the option to toggle the report view to their liking: show record titles only, show short report (the first 200 words of the general description), or show full report. When viewing the full report for a given search result, users will note that all of the assigned sub-categories are hyperlinked to allow the user to easily find related records. Clicking on these links will create a new search report. Use the back button on your browser to navigate through the search reports.

No matter the chosen report view, users always have the option to transition to the website attached to that record to get all of the details on that particular database participant.

Go-BiO is a valuable resource used to identify opportunities for collaboration or partnership with Saskatchewan-based organizations. The purpose of this database is not to collect every detail about relevant organizations; rather it is a means to redirect interested parties to external websites or an appropriate contact person. The full report summarizes all of the information that go-BiO collects on each database participant. The content of the records is the responsibility of the database participant; therefore go-BiO is not responsible for the accuracy, data maintenance, or the reliability of the content of these records or their linked external web sites.

I need help adding a record to go-BiO.

There are two ways that you can add records to go-BiO.

1) Public Application Page - If you do not currently have a username and password, you can add a record to go-BiO through the public application page.  This page will prompt you to provide all of the necessary fields, including an administrative email address.  This administrative email address will become your go-BiO username, through which you can manage mulitple records in the database.  Once you click submit, the system will automatically send you a password so that you can log in and edit your entry in the future.

2) Logged-In Data Entry - If you already have a username and password, you can log into the system and use the "Add an Entry" drop down option from the "Data Entry" part of the menu bar.  This new entry will be assigned to your user profile for management and editing.

NB. After you click submit, the record will enter a queue to be verified by go-BiO administration for addition to the database.  You will receive notification when this occurs.

I forgot my password and/or username!

If you have forgotten your password, simply click the link "I forgot my password" on the login page to ask the system to reset your password.

If you have forgotten your username (administrative email address) or the administrative email account is no longer functional, please contact go-BiO administration to request a manual password reset.

I never received my password.

The go-BiO system emails users a password upon new record creation.  Sometimes your server will capture the auto generated email as spam and send it to your bulk or junk mailbox.  Please white or safe list the email address webmaster@agwest.sk.ca and/or add this address to your safe senders list.  Once you have completed these steps, you can ask the system to resend your password by clicking the link "I forgot my password" on the login page.

Why is it taking so long to get my search results?
Occasionally, the server that hosts go-BiO undergoes maintenance or periods of peak usage.  If you experience system slowdowns, please email go-BiO administration to advise us of the date and time of this occurrence.

Why am I only getting 100 search results?

The system is currently configured to provide a maximum of 100 records for any given search.  In addition, these first 100 results are alphanumeric; therefore records in the latter part of the alphabet (by name) will not return in a broad search.  We recommend that you revise your search with additional keywords to obtain a focused result.
