AAFC - Advancing Canadian Agriculture and Agri-Food (ACAAF) Program

The Advancing Canadian Agriculture and Agri-Food (ACAAF) program is a five-year, $240 million program aimed at positioning Canada's agriculture and agri-food sector at the leading edge to seize new opportunities. ACAAF was launched in April 2004 as a successor to the Canadian Adaptation and Rural Development (CARD) Fund, and will continue CARD's innovative and cooperative approach to funding projects at the national, multi-regional and regional level.  Under the ACAAF program, projects are delivered using an innovative industry-led approach at both the national and regional levels.

The objectives of the ACAAF program are to:

  • Expand the sector's capacity to respond to current and emerging issues.
  • Position the sector to capture market opportunities.
  • Actively and continuously engage the sector to contribute to future agriculture and agri-food policy directions.
  • Integrate sector-led projects tested and piloted under ACAAF into future government or industry initiatives.

Government of Saskatchewan: Environment

The mandate of the Ministry of Environment is to protect and manage Saskatchewan's environmental and natural resources so as to maintain a high level of environmental quality, ensure sustainable development, and provide economic and social benefits for present and future generations.

The go-BiO database will profile relevant departments and programs within the Government of Saskatchewan; however the information in the database is not all-inclusive; therefore we encourage information seekers to look beyond the database into the provincial Government and Government department websites.

Other Information

The Environment Ministry offers a broad range of programs and services, including several that target the development of Saskatchewan's bioeconomy.  Some of these include:

Environmental Assessment - Saskatchewan's Environmental Assessment program was founded on the belief that significant development decisions should not be made before all relevant information is considered. The program provides a practical, comprehensive and integrated approach to decision-making designed to systematically evaluate the ecological, socio-economic and cultural aspects of development within a single framework so that the real costs and tradeoffs at stake in a particular situation can be fully understood. The program guarantees public access to information about proposed development and the right to make one's views known respecting these proposals.

Forests - Forests are a central part of the economy and landscape for many Saskatchewan communities. Our challenge is to make sure that future generations have healthy forest ecosystems capable of providing the numerous benefits that contribute to the unique quality of life we enjoy today.

Land - The Ministry of Environment is responsible for managing more than 37 million hectares of Crown resource land largely found in central and northern Saskatchewan, but with holdings throughout the province. Saskatchewan people have always had a deep connection to the land. Our citizens benefit from government efforts to strengthen and maintain the health of our province through management of the land and its renewable resources in an ecosystem context.

Waste Management - The Ministry of Environment plays a lead role in the development of legislation and policy for waste management, stewardship, regional waste management and waste minimization initiatives.

Water - Find information about how we manage our water along with guidelines, regulations and certification programs for treatment plant operators.
