Western Grains Research Foundation
Western Grains Research Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by farmers that specializes in developing improved public grain varieties and leading edge crop technology for western Canadian farmers. They achieve this by supporting research through wheat and barley check-off programs and their Endowment Fund. WGRF works hard for farmers in representing their voice, ensuring that it is heard and built-in to the research that is being conducted to keep them competitive against the rest of the world. To date, the Endowment Fund has supported a wealth of innovation across Western Canada and provided over $19 million in funding for over 200 projects across a number of different crop types. While the check-off funds have supported in part more than 55 new varieties of wheat and 25 varieties of barley, with new and improved varieties in the pipe-line as we speak.
